Northwestern University’s Corporate Engagement team presented a webinar led by Professor V.S. Subrahmanian, the Walter P. Murphy Professor of Computer Science and Buffett Faculty Fellow in the Buffet Institute of Global Affairs at Northwestern University.  Dr. Subrahmanian was previously the Dartmouth College Distinguished Professor in Cybersecurity, Technology, and Society and Director of the Institute for Security, Technology, and Society at Dartmouth.  From 1989-2017 he was Professor of Computer Science at the University of Maryland  where he also served  as Director of the University of Maryland's Institute for Advanced Computer Studies.

Summary

Can companies use AI to predict cyber-attacks before they occur? How can  companies deal with the threat of ransomware? How will the  proliferation of fake images affect global cybersecurity challenges? Can AI help companies better protect their IP? How can AI  guide corporate leaders  in assessing the cyber-risks  threatening their organization? In this talk,  Dr. Subrahmanian discussed emerging artificial intelligence and machine learning technology that will help decision makers in government and industry gain better insight into how to address these difficult challenges.

V.S. Subrahmanian is one of the world’s foremost experts at the intersection of AI and security issues. He pioneered the development of machine learning and AI-based techniques to analyze terrorist group behavior and cybersecurity issues, as well as text, geospatial, and social network data.. He has written eight books, edited ten, and published over 300 refereed articles. He is an elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence and has received many other honors and awards. His work has been featured in numerous outlets such as the Baltimore Sun, the Economist, the Wall Street Journal, Science, Nature, the Washington Post, and American Public Media. He  sits on the editorial boards of  several journals including Science, and currently serves on the Board of Directors of SentiMetrix, Inc. and on the Research Advisory Board of Tata Consultancy Services. He previously served on the Board of Directors of the Development Gateway Foundation (set up by the World Bank), DARPA's Executive Advisory Council on Advanced Logistics and as an ad-hoc member of the US Air Force Science Advisory Board.
